J. W. RANARD PASSES AWAY
Walker RANARD, 60, passed away Sunday afternoon at the Jefferson county hospital. Death was due to a heart attack. He had been seriously ill for the past ten days. days. (sic)
Joseph Walker RANARD was born September 1, 1883, in Van Buren county, the son of the late Joseph and Caroline RANARD. He lived his entire life in Jefferson and Van Buren counties. His home in Fairfield was at 802 W. Briggs street.
In 1907 he was united in marriage to Mabel Cora HAWBAKER, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters and six sons: Mrs. Harold ALLISON, Mrs. John MARTIN, Phillis Jean RANARD, all of Fairfield; Mrs. Henry ZURCHER, Moline Ill., Mrs. Edward ZURCHER Sherrand, Ill. J. Walter, Robert, Kenneth and John RANARD, all of Fairfield; Clyde of Tacoma Park, Md.; and Gayle RANARD of the U. S. Army; and one brother, Jim RANARD, Waterloo; and one sister, Mrs. Mattie GILBERT, Douds; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Della May, Charles and Delbert.
Mr. RANARD was employed for the past 23 years at the Dexter company.
He was a member of the local Nazarene church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. from the Weston Behner funeral home in charge of Rev. C. F. Wiese. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.

JOSEPH WALKER RANARD
Joseph Walker RANARD, the son of Joseph and Caroline RANARD, was born September 1, 1883 in Van Buren county, Iowa. He passed away on May 28, 1944 at the Jefferson county hospital. Death was caused by a heart ailment. He had been in failing health for a year and seriously ill the last 10 days.
He was married in 1907 to Mabel HAWBAKER, who survives. He is also survived by the following children: Clyde of Tacoma Park, Md.; Mrs. Henry ZURCHCER (sic - ZURCHER), Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Edwarr (sic - Edward) ZURCHER, Sherrard, Ill.; Pfc. Gayle RANARD, in Hawaii; Walter, Robert, Kenneth, Phyllis, John, Mrs. Harold ALLISON and Mrs. John MARTIN, all of Fairfield; one brother, Jim RANARD Waterloo; one sister Mrs. Mattie GILBERT, Douds; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three children, Delbert, Charles and Della May.
Funeral services were held May 31 from the Weston Behner funeral home, in charge of Rev. C. P. Wiese of the Nazarene church. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery.
Those from out of town attendtending (sic) the services included Mr. and Mrs. Henry ZURCHER, Moline; Mr. and Mrs. Edward ZURCHER, Sherrard, Ill; and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde RANARD Tacoma Park, Md.

There are several children of Joseph Walker Ranard and Mabel Cora Hawbaker Ranard whose burial locations have yet to be determined. As those become known they will be added. As of October 12, 2011 the children linked so far are the ones that are known about.
