Description	:	Joseph Westover, a resident of this community for more than 50 years, passed away at his home in Hawarden at 6:30 Sunday evening, death being due to a complication of diseases. He had been in failing health for the past year but was bedfast but two weeks preceding his death. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in this city at 9:30 Tuesday morning with Rev. Fr. He had been in failing health for the past year but was bedfast but two weeks preceding his death. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in this city at 9:30 Tuesday morning with Rev. Fr. J. M. Neppel in charge. Interment was made in Calvary Cemetery. The pall bearers were Dan Ronan, George Schafer, William Muth, H. B. Dalgliesh, D. K. Bennett and John Shilliam. Joseph Westover, son of Michael and Anna Westover, was born in Germany, Oct. 24, 1866, and passed away in Hawarden Feb. 23, 1936; having attained the age of 69 years, 3 months and 23 days. When a child about two years of age he came to America with his parents, who homesteaded 12 miles west of LeMars. At the age of 16, in company with his parents, he moved onto a farm six miles south of Hawarden where he lived until 1923 when he moved to Chatsworth. He was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Schumacher, Feb. 11, 1896, and to this union were born two children. His wife died Jan. 27, 1902. He was united in marriage with Miss Effell Hermence of Manilla, Iowa, Nov. 29, 1905. He is survived by his wife and two children, Mrs. Marie Russell of Merrill and Tony Westover of Hudson. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. John Schumacher of Sioux City, and one brother, John Westover of Lombard, Ill., and four grandchildren, Kathryne and James Russell and Evelyn and Dorothy Westover. Mr. Westover came to Hawarden about three months ago from Chatsworth but was confined to his home during this time. He was a man who attended strictly to his own affairs and through his quiet disposition he made and held many friends among those with whom he came in contact. A number of Chatsworth friends attended the funeral services and out of town relatives who attended the services included Mr. & Mrs. Russell of Merrill; Miss Kathryne Russel of LeMars; Tony Westover of Hudson, and Mrs. John Schumacher of Sioux City.
