He was a graduate of Bridgewater College and awarded MS and PhD degrees in Organic Chemistry from the University of Virginia. Read More	Joseph Willard Baker, PhD, age 88, of Kirkwood, Mo., died January 3 2013. Mr. Baker was born in Luray, Va., the one of the late John M. and Lizzie Ellis Baker. He was a graduate of Bridgewater College and awarded MS and PhD degrees in Organic Chemistry from the University of Virginia. He was a Senior Group Leader in the Research Department of Monsanto for more than 33 years. He was the inventor on 1927 U. S. and Foreign Patents and the author of 15 scientific articles and book chapters. He was a member of the American chemical Society, Alpha Chi Sigma Profession Fraternity and the society of Sigma Xi. Mr. Baker had an abiding passion for genealogy and Spence many hours in libraries, churches, courthouses, and on the computer tracing his family's heritage. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed travel. Mr. Baker was the husband of the late Margaret R. Baker; father of John T. (Susan) Baker and the late Laura E. (Earl) Baker-Hall; grandfather of Simon D. and Avery H. Baker; and step grandfather of Alicia and Kimberly Hall. He was uncle of Michael H. Baker of Luray and brother of the late Robert W. (Phyllis) Baker, also of Luray. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 830 Lockett Rd., Kirkwood, on January 12. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. At a future date still to be determined, a gravesite service will be held in Luray for Joseph and his wife, Margaret. Arrangements at www. boppchapel.com. Page News and Courier – January 10, 2013.
