Description	:	Joseph William Kollasch was born August 19, 1934, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of Leo and Marguerite (O'Brien) Kollasch. He grew up on a farm near Whittemore and attended country school. Joe later attended school at Presentation Academy in Whittemore, graduating in 1952. Growing up he enjoyed playing 4-H softball and baseball. He played on the town team and in 1955, played with the Whittemore Hatchery Team. He worked for H.R. Read More	Joseph William Kollasch was born August 19, 1934, in Whittemore, Iowa, the son of Leo and Marguerite (O'Brien) Kollasch. He grew up on a farm near Whittemore and attended country school. Joe later attended school at Presentation Academy in Whittemore, graduating in 1952. Growing up he enjoyed playing 4-H softball and baseball. He played on the town team and in 1955, played with the Whittemore Hatchery Team. He worked for H.R. Pettit on the farm and at the Plantation Ballroom and for Elmer Maahs at the Whittemore Hatchery. In 1955, Joe was united in marriage to Judy Greinert at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Whittemore. They moved to Elmore, Minnesota, where Joe worked for EJ Butler at the John Deere Store. In 1957, they moved back to Whittemore where Joe worked at the Drying Plant. In 1965, he began farming and lived north of town and also worked at the Whittemore Feed Store. In 1980, they moved to the Louie Greinert farm south of Whittemore. Joe also sold Funks Seed Corn for 10 years and later sold Pioneer Seed Corn from 1978 to 1999. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and being on the farm. His enjoyment for baseball never ended and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He was not afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone regardless of where he was. Joe also served as the Whittemore Township Clerk for many years and was a past president of the Whittemore Housing Authority. He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, serving many roles and was a past sexton of the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery for many years. Joe died Friday, November 1, 2013, at the West Bend Care Center in West Bend, Iowa. He was 79. He is survived by his wife, Judy Kollasch of Whittemore; daughters, Lisa and Gary Fatino of Madrid; Andrea "Andi" and Jay Thompson of Whittemore and their daughter, Jacey; son, Ron Kollasch and friend Kim Page of Whittemore; step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Gary "Bubba" and Sarah Fatino; step great-grandchildren, Jaylen, Eric and Nina Fatino. Also surviving are siblings, Katie Loss of Armstrong; Ann and Joe King of Algona; Mark and Helen Kollasch of Indianola; Eileen and Moe Bormann of West Bend; Carol and Pat Mergen of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and sister-in-law, Naomi and Gene Maahs of Adel and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Louie and Berth Greinert; sister-in-law, Mary Hutchinson and her husband Bud and nephews, Jimmy Hutchinson, Larry King, Tom Kollasch and Jim Rooney.
