She was the informant who filed the information for completion of the death record. ----------- The Batavia News Thursday March 1, 1917 Pg. 1 TAKES OWN LIFE Joseph W. Oliver, a young man and well known resident of Des Moines township near County Line took his own life yesterday. Some time during the forenoon he had gone out to cut wood, and when he did not return sometime past the noon hour, his sister became uneasy and began searching for him, finding him lying dead in a slough running through a field back of the house, having shot himself through the head once with a revolver, death probably being instant. No wood had been cut and it is presumed he took his life shortly after leaving the house. Until some two years ago, Mr. Oliver was a prosperous young farmer, seemingly contented, but since had been using liquors and it is reported had lost quite a sum of money. Several months ago he returned home after treatment at the hospital at Mt. Pleasant. Two years ago he held a sale and with his sister resided in Batavia, but for the past year they have been residing on their farm. Funeral services will be held at the home at eleven o'clock Friday morning, interment in the Brethren cemetery.
