Description	:	Born at Sea on way from Bohemia. First married Allison Garrett, second married Yareah, and third married James Upah. Josephine Klemak was born in Bohemia in 1864 and died at her home in Chelsea, March 10, 1920, aged 56 years. When but a child she came to America with her parents, who, when they located in Iowa, came to Salt Creek township and located on the farm now occupied by Joe Stadler. Here she grew to womanhood. First married Allison Garrett, second married Yareah, and third married James Upah. Josephine Klemak was born in Bohemia in 1864 and died at her home in Chelsea, March 10, 1920, aged 56 years. When but a child she came to America with her parents, who, when they located in Iowa, came to Salt Creek township and located on the farm now occupied by Joe Stadler. Here she grew to womanhood. She was married to Mr. Garrett and to this union was born one son, Edward, who was with her to the last. She was again married to Mr. Yarash. They were blessed with one daughter, Julia, who passed away 20 years ago. In 1896 she was again married to James Upah, taking a mother's place for his two sons and six daughters, all of whom are now married, except one son, James Jr. To Mr. and Mrs. Upah was born one daughter, Mrs. Ollie Jay, of Council Bluffs, who was at her mother's bedside the greater part of the time during her last severe illness. She was confined to her bed continually for ten weeks, suffering terribly from that dread disease of cancer, for which she had undergone two operations during the past two and a half years, each time gaining only relief for a short time. She was a patient sufferer and never forgot to be pleasant and kind to all who helped care for her. All was done that loving hands could do to alleviate her suffering and try to make her comfortable, which was impossible. She leaves to mourn her loss a kind husband, her two children, Edward and Ollie, two brothers, Frank Klemag of Nebraska and Joe Klemak of Chelsea, one sister, Mrs. Mary Medhurst of Cedar Rapids, one half brother, Chas. Shramek of Valentine, Nebraska, two half sisters, Misses Anna and Carrie Shramek of Council Bluffs. Of these none were present at the funeral except Edward, Ollie and Joe Klemak. Those of who she took to mother in their younger years who were in attendance at the service were: John Upah from near Belle Plaine, Mesdames Mary Kulper and Anna Munson of Belle Plaine, Mrs. Frances Mussell of Howard county, Mesdames Agnes Hartsell and Julia Ray of Boone, and James Upah Jr. of Chelsea. Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph church Friday at 10:30 o'clock during high mass, conducted by Rev. Father McGregor. She was borne to her last resting place in the Chelsea Catholic cemetery by Messrs. Joseph Kupka, Nick Novotny, John Stanek, Frank Sell, Frank Lucas, and Charles Blazek. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in the loss of one so near and dear to many. She will not only be missed by her own people, but also by her neighbors and many friends, for she was one of the same neighborhood for twenty-four years, as Mr. Upah brot her, a bride, to his home on August 17, 1896, where they have lived until she was called to give up her earthly home for one in that great beyond.
