(Macke) Cross was born on December 4, 1921, to Bernard and Sophia (Reicks) Macke in Petersburg, Nebraska. She was one of ten children. She had six brothers and three sisters. She attended Petersburg School. Josephine helped on her family's farm until they moved to Creighton when she was 20 years old. While living in Creighton, she helped with chores and also helped with farming at the neighbors. Josie also liked to clean homes and was a housekeeper for a few years. On May 10, 1948, she married Marvin Cross at St. Ludger Rectory in Creighton, Nebraska. They had three sons, Larry, Perry and David, and one daughter, Helen. They made their home in Creighton and farmed for years. Josie loved to raise chickens and geese. Her fondest memories are of the whole family and extended families coming over to her house for Thanksgiving and everyone would have fun talking and eating a great meal. Her hobbies were embroidering, crocheting and gardening. She enjoyed cooking, baking and loved family gatherings. She worked at the Creighton Care Centre in housekeeping. She was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church. Josephine died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Creighton Care Centre, at the age of 88. Josie had a great sense of humor and loved to joke around with the Creighton Care Centre staff and other residents. This past December, she was awarded the Resident of the Month. She is survived by her daughter, Helen Cross of Cheyenne Wyoming; sons, Larry and David Cross of Creighton; sister, Ronnie Jetensky of Creighton; and brother, Kenny Macke of Reeds, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents; son, Perry; two sisters, Alvina and Blondie; five brothers, Henery, Francis, Leo, Alphonse and Bernard.
