Description	:	Josephine (Jo) Connelly Evans passed away on May 2, 2014, at West Park Retirement Home where she has lived happily since 2009. Jo was born March 6, 1916, three miles east of Billings on the "bench." She was the fifth of five children born to Samuel T. and Mary Towne Connelly. Her brother Don and her sisters Virginia, Elizabeth and Grace all preceded her in death. Read More	Josephine (Jo) Connelly Evans passed away on May 2, 2014, at West Park Retirement Home where she has lived happily since 2009. Jo was born March 6, 1916, three miles east of Billings on the "bench." She was the fifth of five children born to Samuel T. and Mary Towne Connelly. Her brother Don and her sisters Virginia, Elizabeth and Grace all preceded her in death. In 1919, she moved with her family to town and lived at 113 N. 26th St., where her family owned the Connelly Family Creamery. They lived in an apartment above it. She loved to tell of roller skating on First Avenue South. She loved Billings and the State of Montana. She was very proud to have been a granddaughter of George Towne, a Montana pioneer who built the first building in Billings and also the first home in Red Lodge. Jo loved to dance and starting dancing lessons at Miss Dorothy Hansen's when she was 5 and participated in many recitals at the Babcock Theatre, once even wearing wooden shoes. She continued to dance for the rest of her life. Some of her happiest moments were spent dancing. She attended Roosevelt, Broadwater, Jefferson schools and graduated from Billings High School in 1934. That fall she attended college at North Dakota State College in Fargo, majoring in Pre Med and Journalism. In 1936, she moved back to Billings and worked at the Gazette Printing Company and School District #2. On Jan. 14, 1939, she married "the best dancer in the city of Billings" John Farnum Evans. They were married 67 years until John's death in 2006. Their honeymoon was spent in Red Lodge, where in minus 10 degree weather, they skied the slopes They were some of the first skiers and loved to ski for many years. Billings Gazette 05-24-2014
