Died at her home, on Commerce street, Fredericksburg, Va., on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1897, Mrs. Josephine Quinn, wife of Capt. S. J. Quinn, in the 47th year of her age. The sad death of this most excellent woman was the result of severe burns caused by the falling of a kerosine (sic) lamp igniting her clothing on the night of the 22nd of July last. It was thought at first that she was not fatally, though painfully, burned; but in spite of the best medical attention, and all that love could suggest for her relief, she yielded to the inevitable after twelve days of patient and painful suffering. Mrs. Quinn was born the 13th of January, 1851, in Caroline county, and was the only child of Capt. James Duval and Mary Ellen, his wife, who removed to this place when their only child was about two years old. Mrs. Quinn became a Christian in her girlhood and was baptized into the fellowship of the Fredericksburg Baptist Church by Rev. Wm. Harrison Williams in the spring of 1866, and to the close of life was a most exemplary Christian and a useful and greatly beloved church member. She was married to Capt. S. J. Quinn the 16th of May, 1866, and a more devoted and faithful wife than she never blessed a husband. Besides her grief-stricken husband she leaves six children and three grandchildren, the offspring of her deceased daughter Sallie, to mourn her untimely death. A large circle of friends are greatly distressed at her death, and extend their heartfelt sympathy to the afflicted family. Mrs. Quinn's funeral took place from the Baptist Church yesterday at 5 o'clock, and a large and sympathetic concourse of people followed to her last resting place, a bright Christian, a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a kind neighbor and an honored and highly respected member of society.
