Description	:	Josephine "Jo" (Blumgren) Hartl Jo was born Sept.17, 1918 in Kiron, Iowa to Nels and Gertrude Blumgren. She passed away June 11, 2010 at the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She grew up on a farm outside of Odebolt, Iowa, the oldest of two children. She attended country school through eighth grade. Later the family moved to Odebolt, where she attended high school. Read More	Josephine "Jo" (Blumgren) Hartl Jo was born Sept.17, 1918 in Kiron, Iowa to Nels and Gertrude Blumgren. She passed away June 11, 2010 at the Cashmere Convalescent Center. She grew up on a farm outside of Odebolt, Iowa, the oldest of two children. She attended country school through eighth grade. Later the family moved to Odebolt, where she attended high school. After graduating from high school, she attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) earning a Teaching Certificate. Jo and two other young women came out to Chelan, Wash. to teach school. Jo taught third grade. While there, she met Hans Hartl who had just returned from World War Two military service. They were married in Odebolt, Iowa on June 28, 1947. The couple moved to the Cashmere area shortly thereafter and continued to reside in Cashmere. Jo taught school for several more years before the couple began raising their family. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Cashmere, where she was church organist, taught Sunday school and led Bible studies. For many years she volunteered at the Historical Museum in Cashmere, the Cashmere Convalescent Center and was a "pink lady" at Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee. As her children grew older she packed fruit every fall in several different warehouses in the Cashmere area. Jo was a great cook and hostess; she loved baking her fruit pies to share with family and friends. After her husband retired they both enjoyed traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hans R. Hartl. She is survived by her sister Kay Hogberg of Spokane; three children: sons, Robert of Seattle and William (Deborah) of Leavenworth, daughter Marilyn (Jeff) Jewell of Sammamish; and grandchildren Scott (23), Kristin (20) and Paul (15). A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Cashmere on Monday, June 28 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Cashmere.
