Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Joseph Miksch officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in Tarnov. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, with visitation continuing on Saturday, from 9-10 a.m., all at the church. Josephine M. Sliva was born March 18, 1912, in Tarnov, to Stanley and Mary (Jarosz) Starzec. She attended St. Michael's school in Tarnov and St. Anthony School in Cedar Rapids. Josephine married Dennis Sliva on Oct. 24, 1939, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She lived and farmed by Tarnov until moving to Columbus in 1978. Josephine was a member of St. Isidore Church, Christian Mothers and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed watching and listening to all sports, playing cards and bingo. She is survived by her son, James Sliva, of Shickley; daughter, Margaret (Richard) Payzant, of Columbus; son, Bernie (Jean) Sliva, of Columbus; son, Tom (Patti) Sliva, of Humphrey; son, Tim (Julie) Sliva, of Humphrey; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Sliva, of Ralston; sister, Bernadette Paprocki, of Rock Island, Ill.; brother: Sylvester Starzec, of Columbus; 15 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Sliva; father, Stanley Starzec; mother, Mary Starzec; infant daughter, Mary; daughter-in-law, Patricia Sliva; son, William Sliva; brother, Alphonse Starzec; brother, Stephan Starzec; sister Vera Vanderheiden; and great-granddaughter, Kamryn Kleinschmidt.
