Description	:	It is with great sadness that the family of Josephine (Nikiforuk) LeBlanc announce her passing on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Josephine was born to the late Katherine and Nicholas Nikiforuk in Lamont, Alberta on September 17, 1919. The family moved to a homestead near Newbrook, Alberta in May of 1921 and it was there that she received her schooling at Darling and Waskatenau Schools. Read More	It is with great sadness that the family of Josephine (Nikiforuk) LeBlanc announce her passing on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Josephine was born to the late Katherine and Nicholas Nikiforuk in Lamont, Alberta on September 17, 1919. The family moved to a homestead near Newbrook, Alberta in May of 1921 and it was there that she received her schooling at Darling and Waskatenau Schools. Upon graduation, Josephine moved to Edmonton to begin her career and furthered her education. Through various positions in the federal government, Josephine ultimately became a stenographer for Lester Pearson's Foreign Affairs Department in Ottawa. It was in Ottawa that Josephine met and married Edward LeBlanc. Over the years, through Ed's work with the Air Force, Josephine had the opportunity to live and make friends on several air force bases throughout Canada. Upon his retirement from the forces, the family settled in Red Deer where Josephine remained until Ed's death. She moved to Edmonton in 1998 and lived in the Shepherds Care Condominium independently until her hospitalization a month ago. Josephine is survived by her sons, Barry (Judy) of Red Deer and Carl of Lethbridge; her granddaughters, Tammy (Matt) Hnatiuk and Mandy, both of Airdrie; her sister, Phyllis Marudiak; her brother, Nicholas, both of Edmonton and her brother, Walter of Newbrook; many nieces and nephews; as well as extended family and many dear friends. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Edward; her sister, Elswet Yurchuk and her brothers, Andrew, Reginald and Zan Nikiforuk. Cremation has taken place at Josephine's request. Celebration of Josephine's Life on Monday, July 4 at 11:30 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 111 Avenue, Edmonton, AB. Interment in Darling Cemetery, Darling, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2 for cancer research.
