In respect of Jo's wishes and upon the request of the family, there will be a private family graveside service at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. The Rev. Maxine Burow will officiate. A public visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute. Jo Thompson was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Wayne, Neb., the daughter of Frank D. and Maude (Sales) Evans. She grew up and was educated in Sioux City. After high school, she moved to Ute, where she made her home for the next 65 years. On Sept. 28, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lyle Thompson of Ute. They moved to the Clarence Thompson farm in 1956, where they made their living farming. After Lyle's passing on April 22, 1980, Jo stayed on the farm where she raised her son, David. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church (RLDS) as well as the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid collector of carnival glass and antiques in general. She found satisfaction in making the wedding cakes for all her friends and was known for being the one who pierced their ears. Her flowers, watching the birds on the farm, and going fishing all gave Jo pleasure, however, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her life! Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Jo include her seven children, David Thompson, Susan James and her husband, "Butch", Bonnie Bridgeman and her husband, Charlie, Jana Radloff and her husband, Mike, all of Ute, Steven Thompson and his wife, Laurie of Sioux City, Barbie Carstensen and her husband, Alan of Ute, and Nancy Leeper of Denison, Iowa; her grandchildren, Larry (Jacque), Shane (Christina), Amy (Garrett), Katie (Jesse), Tony (Sabrina), Christie (Dustin), Brandi, Aaron, Casey (Brandon), Abbie, Jenny (LeRoy), Brad (April), and Shelly; her great-grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda, Josie, Derek, Shelby, Wyatt, Austin, Sidney, Carter, Anna, Kameron, Bailey, Karlie, Briar, Brent, Cameron, Darin, Aiden, Braxton, Kayla, Bryce, Samantha, Jesse, Jordan, Hannah, and Devon; along with many nieces, nephews and neighbors; and numerous good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; her parents, Frank and Maude Evans; and brothers and sisters, Blanche Bruggeman; Wesley Evans, Woody Evans, Bernice Millhollin, and Kenneth Evans.
