Description	:	Josephine and her sister Antonia came to the U.S. and thought that they were to end up in Anderson, South Carolina, but they ended up somewhere in Canada. The person that paid their way to come to the US was paying for a lot of young girls to come to the "U.S." He, in fact, was bringing them to Canada to work as prostitutes. They scraped together enough money and escaped to South Carolina, where their sister Mary lived. They finally crossed the border from Quebec, Canada to the US on May 17, 1909. When they got to Anderson, South Carolina, they worked in the Textile mills. Antonia died shortly thereafter. Josephine worked to pay for the funeral expenses. In 1911, she moved to live with relatives in Chelsea, Iowa (Uncle John Krizek and Aunt Marie Hajek). The Fucik family had servants in Czechoslovakia. One of the servant girls, Karolina, had come to the US and settled in David City, Nebraska. Josephine was writing letters to Karolina from Iowa and sent a picture of herself to Karolina. Her neighbor, William Masek saw the picture and he started to write to Josephine. He asked her to marry him, but his parents had to approve of her, so he went to Iowa, and brought her to David City. She stayed with Karolina. The Masek family approved of her so she stayed. Josephine and William were married on September 12, 1912 and had seven children: Stanley Joseph 1914-1984 Charles Frank 1916-1988 William Fred 1918-1943 Marie Anna (Trojan) 1920-2008 Peter Joseph 1922-1994 Agnes Alice (Oborny) 1924-2009 Lillian Theresa (Ekstein) 1925-1995 Josephine's sister Rosa married William's Brother John.
