The remains were brought to Ashley, OH, and taken to thr residence of his sister, Mrs. H.L. Cross. His remains were accompanied by his daughter Miss Pearl, his niece Miss Vera Cory and H.A. The excercises at the church were conducted by Dr. Hawn pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Delaware and at the grave by the Masonic fraternity. Josephus F. Doty was born on March 16, 1843, in Woodbury, Morrow Co., OH, being 47 yrs 11 mo 11da old at the time of his death. His father died when he was two years old. He spent the early part of his life in different parts of the country, and taught school in Indiana when 17 yrs old and until the war brokw out. In May 1861 he enlisted in the 26th regiment, O.V.I. and served until the close of the war. He married to Millie Baxter in 1864, and to them were born a son, Arthur, who lived to be 14 mos. old. About one yr after little Arthur's death, his mother died at their home in Ashley. In the summer of 1874 he joined the Presbyterian Church of Ashley, and was soon after elected and ordained and elder. June 24, 1874 he was married to Mary E. Pierce, who died in Topeka Kan., November 7, 1890. Their only child Pearl, who survives her parents was born Nov. 20, 1876. At the time of his death he was employed as Fuel Agent by Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Co. His last sickness was thyhoid malarial fever.
