Description	:	Joshua Jones Melick, 70, for many year a prominent businessman in this state, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. K. A. Whitmer, Monday evening at 6:10 following a stroke of paralysis suffered on a Chicago and North Western train while passing through Fremont 11 days ago. Whitmer, Monday evening at 6:10 following a stroke of paralysis suffered on a Chicago and North Western train while passing through Fremont 11 days ago. Since that time he has been confined at the Whitmer home and his condition has gradually declined. Mr. Melick, whose home has been at Omaha the past 16 years, was enroute from Neligh, where he had been looking over land holdings, to Omaha when he suffered the stroke. He was moved from the train to the Union depot and his daughter notified. Since he suffered the affliction his condition has been such that he could not be moved to his Omaha home. For many years he has been prominent in this section of the state. When he lived at Neligh he held the position as postmaster there a number of years. During the later years of his life he had been in the real estate and surety bond business at Omaha. In the past few years he has been practically retired, tending to only his own interests. Mr. Melick was instrumental in the organization of several lumber and coal businesses in this section and was interested with his son, John, in the Melick Lumber company of this city. He was born at Trenton, N. J., February 19, 1857. He was united in marriage to Mary Trowbridge at Neligh. She died in 1896 and he was married again in 1899 to Violet McDonald, in New York. Surviving are his wife, three sons, John, Fremont; Charles, Neligh; and Edward, Neligh; and two daughters, Mrs. K. A. Whitmer, Fremont; and Mrs. Julius Schwichtenberg, of Norfolk; two brothers, Jacob and Charles, of New Jersey, also survive. Short funeral services will be held at the J. R. Bader-Hartman Funeral home Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. E. L. Baker, pastor of the Fremont Community Church Congregational, and Rev. Smith, of Omaha will officiate. The remains will be taken to Neligh where services will be held In the Congregational church there. Interment will be made at Neligh. Fremont Tribune (Fremont, Nebraska) June 28, 1927
