Description	:	God took our hero, Josh Placzek, 37, of Grand Island to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 31, 2014. Josh passed peacefully in his sleep and is no longer suffering from muscular dystrophy. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River, with the Rev. Anthony Madhichetti officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Wood River. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Josh Placzek was born on Dec. 24, 1976, in Grand Island, the son of Kevin and Theresa (Heinrich) Placzek. He received his education and grew to manhood in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1996. He was employed at Skagway south for 14 years, Case New Holland for seven years and was currently at Mid-Nebraska Individual Services until his death. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wood River. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. He enjoyed helping his father, Kevin, at the Alda Volunteer Fire Department. Josh enjoyed selling honey for the Arc on Honey Sunday. He loved golfing and participated in the Stuhr Museum old-fashioned baseball and Special Olympics bowling, basketball, softball and refereed basketball. He was a member of the Arc and People First. Those left to cherish his memory include his father and stepmother, Kevin and Dee Placzek of Grand Island; stepsister, Lisa Jamison (Tyler) of Lincoln; stepbrother, Scott Christensen (Rebecka) of San Diego; grandmother, Mary Virginia Heinrich of Wood River; aunts and uncles, John and Joyce Willoughby of Wood River, Denny and Amy Placzek of Kearney, Dan and Julie Meyers of Kearney, Bob and Nancy Grinstead of Omaha; nephew, Adam Jamison of Lincoln; numerous cousins; and so many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Placzek; grandparents, Dennis and Stacia Placzek; grandfather, Calvin Heinrich; stepgrandmother, Evelyn Plazcek; aunts, Rita Meyers and Nancy Heinrich; uncle, Francis Heinrich; and cousin, Elizabeth Meyers. In his short time on this earth, Josh touched so many lives and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. He truly was an Angel here on Earth!
