Vol. V:105 et seq.] Because of its importance to other members of his family, an abstract of Joshua Stoddard's estate and will, the latter written on Sept. 29, 1703 [not 1723 as claimed by Stiles], follows: • Joshua Stoddard, Wethersfield. Invt. £124-05-00. Taken 1st March, 1725-6, by Daniel Rose and James Butler. Will dated 29 September, 1703. • I, Joshua Stoddard, being sick and weak yet of sound memory, considering the shortness and uncertainty of my life here in this world, and desireing to settle and dispose of my estate, do make this my last will and testament: • I give unto my loving wife Bethiah Stoddard all my homestead and all my land in Wethersfield meadow during her natural life, and after her decease to return to my brothers John Stoddard and Nathaniel Stoddard, equally to be divided between them. And if my wife shall survive my brothers, or any one of them, then the half of the sd. land I give to the children of my brother John, and the other half to the children of my brother Nathaniel Stoddard. • I give unto my sd. wife all my household goods whatsoever, to be hers forever, except 1 frying pan and I iron pot which was mine before marriage, which I give to my brothers John Stoddard and Nathaniel Stoddard, that is to say, after my wife's death. Likewise, I give unto my wife 1 cowe and a hefer, 1 mare and colt, to be hers forever, and all my bees. • It is my further will and pleasure to constitute and appoint my well-beloved wife Bethiah Stoddard to be the whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament. • Witness:...........JOSHUA STODDARD, LS.
