Description	:	Josiah S. Daugherty is of Scotch-Irish ancestry, his grandfather wmigrating from the north of Ireland in 1790. His grandmother was of German descent. His father, Thomas Daughterty, was born in Chester County, Penn., in 1795. His mother, Elizabeth ( Krops) Daughterty was born in 1805 in West Virginia. Daugherty is of Scotch-Irish ancestry, his grandfather wmigrating from the north of Ireland in 1790. His grandmother was of German descent. His father, Thomas Daughterty, was born in Chester County, Penn., in 1795. His mother, Elizabeth ( Krops) Daughterty was born in 1805 in West Virginia. His parents moved to Jefferson County, Ohio, in 1822, where Josiah S. Daughtery was born December 27, 1827. In 1828, his parents moved to Coshocton County, Ohio. In 1848, he removed with his parents to Wabash County, Ind. His school education was limited to that obtained in the usual log schoolhouse of that day. But to this he added what the schools even of a later day have not been able to give - a practical talent for business. In 1855, he came to Wabash, and formed a connection with the firm of Lumaree Brothers, who kept a stock of merchandise, dealt in live stock and were pork-packers. In 1858, D. W. Lumaree withdrew from the firm, leaving John b. Lumaree and William Daugherty sole proprietors. This relation continued till 1887, when the firm was dissolved by the death of John b. Lumaree, and the business was closed. The business was soon re-opened, and the firm name now became J. S. & D. Daughtery, farmers, stock dealers and pork-packers. In 1877, the brothers in company with Mrs. George E. Gordon, opened a drug store in Wabash. They conducted and extensive wholesale and retail business. Mr. Daugherty is President of the First National Bank of Wabash, which position he has held since March 15, 1875, he and his brother holding nearly half the entire stock. In 1871, he was elected President of the Wabash School Furniture Company; has served as Chief of the Wabash Fire Department; is a member of the City School Board, and has always taken a prominent part in all enterprises calculated to advance the moral and material interests of the community of which he is a member. He and his brother have a joint ownership in a number of good farms in the county, besides which they are owner of much valuable town property. He was married to Miss Minerva Lumaree of Wabash, daughter of John B. Lumaree, June 7, 1858. To them have been born six children; Marie, born July 19, 1859; Soctt, May 23, 1861, died September 17, 1862; Laura L., born October 18, 1864; Emma, October 4, 1866; Lucy September 21, 1869; and Carl, December 15, 1874. In 1871, MrDaughter made the tour of Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming Territories. He with a party of five men, made a trip from Virginia City to the Yellowstone Lake and the Yellowstone Falls; this beng the second party of explorers making the hazardous trip. While at the falls, they experienced the wonderful sensation one feels from the earthquake's shock, sustaining two distinct shocks while there. He collected many rare specimens of minerals and fossils at the place, as also from the many mines he visited. It is a pleasure to visit Mr. Daugherty at his home, when the cares of business are thrust aside and for the time he has become the man of leisure. At the same time that Mr. Daugherty has obeyed the Pauline precept of being "diligent in business," he has not neglected to store his mind with a general knowledge of what is going on in the world about him, so that at the same time he may be the sharp, practical business man, he is also ready in conversation upon matters pertaining to life in general. Mr. Daugherty is a member of the Presbyterian Church. He has never sought nor held any position of political preferment, but has been content to go forward in performing his duties as a citizen in a quiet, unostentations way.
