Jotham Howes, one of the best known men on the Cape, died at his home in this place on Saturday last, after a long illness. Mr. Howes was a native of Dennis, and lived there until just after the construction of the Woods Hole branch of the Old Colony railroad, when he took up his residence in Woods Hole and, has lived here since. For many years he was the station agent at this end of the branch, and afterwards served as postmaster, which position he resigned about a year ago in consequence of poor health. At one time he was in the employ of the Pacific Guano company, he was a man well liked and retiring in his habits. He leaves a daughter, Bessie, who was formerly a teacher in one of the Falmouth schools. He was 66 years of age. Funeral services were held Monday, conducted by Rev. George Fisher, rector of the church of the Messiah. Interment in Woods Hole cemetery.
