Description	:	BEAVER CITY — Joy Arline Horn, 88, of Beaver City died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at Beaver City Manor. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Community Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Daryl Kats officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Columbus. Cremation was chosen. Read More	BEAVER CITY — Joy Arline Horn, 88, of Beaver City died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at Beaver City Manor. Wenburg Funeral Home of Beaver City is in charge of arrangements. She was born July 8, 1928, in Valentine to Edmond and Grace (Patton) Carter. She graduated from Genoa High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, she taught in rural schools in Nance and Platte counties. She married Herman Otte of Columbus at Christ Lutheran Church in 1948. Five sons were born to this union: Michael, Steven, Wayne, Keith and Chris. Herman died in 1973. Following his death, Joy worked in restaurant management for the next 15 years. She worked in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Jackson Hole, Wyo.; and Mesa, Ariz., and managed country clubs in Nebraska. She was a manager of the Colorado Spring Elks Club at the time of her retirement. On March 28, 1987, she was joined in wedlock to Wallace Horn of Granby, Colo. They resided in the Denver area until 2001 when they move to Beaver City to be near family. Wallace died in April 2002. Throughout her life, Joy was active in community activities. After the death of her 4-year-old son Keith, she was co-organizer and first president of the Platte Valley Association for Retarded Children. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Columbus Opportunity for Special Children and was honored by the Columbus PTA with a life membership for her work with mentally handicapped children. In Colorado, she was president of the Columbine Newcomers and volunteered at the Thrift Store in Beaver City. She helped organize the Beaver City Red Hatters and was its first “Queen Mum.” She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Laura Otte of Beaver City, Wayne Otte of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Chris and wife Tammi Otte of Oxford; stepdaughter, Beth and husband Randy Abell of Creston, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Fern Smith of St. Joseph, Mo., and Iva and husband Leonard Zoucha of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leon Carter; and sons, Steven and Keith Otte
