Description	:	Joy Jones, age 85, of Huron and formerly of Alpena and the Wessington Springs area, died Saturday, February 11, 2006, at the Rockford Assisted Living Center at Hemet, CA. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Monday, February 20, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday morning. Joy Jones was born Joy Opal Neumeyer on October 21, 1920, to Edward and Anna Marie (Pederson) Neumeyer at Alpena, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Huron. She grew up in Alpena and graduated from Alpena High School in 1939. From 1941-1945 she lived at Manhattan Beach, CA, and worked for North American Aviation as a Rosie the Riveter where she helped build airplanes for the war effort during World War II. At the end of the war she returned to South Dakota. On July 3, 1946, Joy married Floyd Jones in Huron. They lived on a farm near Alpena until 1956 when they moved to a farm near Lane, SD. In 1965, they moved into Wessington Springs where Joy worked at Weskota Manor Nursing Home as a nurses aide and dietician for 20 years. Her husband, Floyd, died in 1981. Joy retired in 1986 and moved to Huron. She was a member of American Lutheran Church, church circle, United Church Women, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and Royal Neighbors of America. She was very active at the Huron Area Senior Center in many areas including RSVP and Meals on Wheels. Her many interests included reading, cooking (she loved food), traveling, playing cards, crocheting, and helping others. She especially treasured the time that she could spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joy was visiting her family in Hemet over the holidays when she became ill. Joy is described by her family as a most loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by 3 daughters, Jeri (George) Havens of Hemet, CA, Mary Gundy of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Holly Jones of Aurora, CO; 1 son, Tom Jones of Grapevine, TX; 1 brother, Earl Neumeyer of Belle Fourche, SD; 2 sisters, Geraldine Virgin of Yuma, AZ, and Velma Luckey of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Jenifer Gundy, Aaron Havens, Travis (Jenn) Havens, and Weslie Ann Williams; 2 great grandchildren, Chance Gundy, and William Havens; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; a son, Todd Jones; 1 sister, Amelia Amy Holland; 3 brothers-in-law, Patrick Holland, Wilbur Luckey, and Ray Boster; and 1 sister-in-law, Doris Neumeyer.
