Description	:	Joyce A. Maxey, 75, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. H.E. Stephens, Curtis Cadenhead and Perry Hunsaker officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. MDT Friday in Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse Kan. Joyce was born Dec. 6, 1938, in Syracuse to Paul and Deloris Baker. She was raised on a family farm in Menno community, south of Kendall, Kan. She graduated salutatorian and was home coming queen in 1956 at Syracuse High School. She married Billy Gene Maxey on Aug. 5, 1956, in Syracuse, and they were blessed with 58 years. They lived together in Pueblo, Colo., where their three children were born. They called Gunnison, Colo., home for many years before returning to Syracuse. They built and operated The Dog House restaurant to give kids and locals a place to enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of pie, and even catered meals to harvesters and visiting school teams after the games. After relocating to Amarillo, she worked at Baptist St. Anthony’s business office for several years and transferred to First Care as a supervisor in the recovery specialist department. She loved to travel in their RV, enjoyed quilting and sewing. Her grandchildren will remember her homemade chicken and noodles and peanut butter cinnamon rolls. Survivors include her husband, Bill; a daughter, Patricia Jo Rhyne and husband Dennis of Amarillo; two sons, Timothy Paul Maxey and wife Marsha of Ulysses Kan., and Andrew Gene Maxey and wife Angela of Vail, Colo.; a brother, Lyle M Baker and wife Janice of Hays Kan.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Saint Paul United Methodist Church Rebecca Sunday school class, 4317 W. Interstate 40, Amarillo, TX 79106. (Published in Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 20, 2014)
