Read More	Joyce Guttormson, age 93 of Bottineau died Sunday at a Bend, Oregon medical center. Funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 am at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be Monday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Joyce Adelle Vikan was born to Oscar and Sanna Vikan in Bottineau, North Dakota on February 3, 1921 . She grew up there as the eldest of 7, and has always considered Bottineau her home. She fell in love with and married Reuben Guttormson on Aug 17, 1941. During their 73 years of marriage they moved 8 times, had 9 children (6 of them still living), and they still managed to move back to her beloved Bottineau twice during that time. During her busy life as mother, she still found time for her two passions – writing and painting. She painted landscapes, flowers, seascapes and old barns, even branching into painting designs on earrings at one time. Writing was also a creative outlet for her. She worked in a library, on a newspaper, wrote stories, and tackled the huge project of writing extensive family histories – all done by tracking genealogies without the aid of computers! Along the way she also played piano, saw to it that all her children had lessons, and she sewed numerous quilts – some of them hand stitched. All of her children’s clothes were not only hand-sown by her, but were made to be matching outfits – and glorious school costumes that were envied by school chums. Her happiest memories were when they lived in ‘the hills’ as she called the outlying area of Lake Metigoshe near Bottineau. She and Reuben, after his retirement, moved to a wooded spot, named it “Guttormsonville”, and proceeded to homestead. Their lives were filled with gardening, long walks, painting and reading, and playing cards with the numerous good friends who visited them. They were surrounded by deer, squirrels, rabbits, occasionally a herd of moose, and hundreds of birds that would visit their feeders and give them hours of enjoyment. We will dearly miss our mom, Dad’s wife, sister, and friend to many, and will especially miss her sense of humor and her relentless pursuit of “making everyone comfortable”. Even in later years with some health problems, her need to be the gracious hostess never wavered. All of her children unite as one voice to say - “Mom, we love you.” Joyce is survived by her husband Reuben, sisters Evelyn Mettler, Dorothy Miller, Carol Tilton, and Delores Belter, and one brother Virgil Vikan. She also leaves 6 children – Ron, Louise, Jim, Gary, Deb, and Tom, plus 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
