She graduated from Chappell Schools in 1959 and then attended Midland College, Fremont, Nebraska for two years. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. While living in Lincoln, she worked for Brandeis department store. On September 25, 1965, she married Duane Kaufmann at Grace Lutheran Church in Chappell, Nebraska, the church where she had been baptized and confirmed. The couple lived on a farm south of Newman Grove, Nebraska where they raised their family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove where she was organist for many years. She was also a member of the Palestine Extension Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and raising flowers. Joyce Kaufmann, 77, died May 10, 2019 in Saint Edward, Nebraska. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Duane; son Scott Kaufmann, Waverly, NE; daughter Nancy (Kent) Thompson, Otley, IA; granddaughter, Makayla Thompson and grandson Vaughn Thompson; brothers: Percy (Marilyn Peltzer, Seminole, FL, and Albert Peltzer, Sterling, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister-in-law, Donna Peltzer.
