Joyce's cenotaph marker Memorial Cemetery. Joyce Diane (Behrens) Schmidt was born to her loving parents Arthur C. "Art" Behrens and Arlene Edith (Hull) Behrens-Sutherland on Friday January 2, 1942 at Fremont, Dodge County Nebraska. Joyce spent her childhood years on a rural farm with an address of route 1 Ames, Dodge County which is now 1555 County Road 14 with the farm house GPS coordinates of 41.524847, -96.656035. A Brush Creek Reservoir was built years later to the west of her parents farm building site, my father enjoyed fishing in this stocked reservoir. Joyce attended the James Town country elementary school district 34 in the early fifties which was about a mile to the southeast of her folk's farm with the GPS coordinates of 41.517101, -96.645797. The school house is pictured in this biography but may have since burned down. Joyce graduated in 1959 from North Bend High, Dodge County. Joyce then attended the Midland College of Fremont, she was later employed at the Omaha Insurance Company. Joyce was united in marriage to William Schmidt of Home City, Marshall County Kansas on Saturday April 8, 1961 at the Pella Lutheran Church of Omaha, Douglas County, they were blessed over the years of marriage with a son and a daughter. The couple moved to Home City in 1963. Joyce became ill about a week before delivering her second child a stillborn daughter Julie Rena on Monday September 4, 1967 at the Community Memorial Hospital of Marysville, Marshall County. Joyce lived for another five weeks before she sadly passed on Wednesday October 11, 1967 from childbirth complications. Joyce was 25 years, 9 months, 9 days which does not include her last day, she lived a total of 9,413 days. Joyce's funeral service was held at the Friedens Lutheran Church of Home City on Saturday October 14, 1967 at 2:30p with the Rev. Harian Brel officiating, she was a member of this church. "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Emil Miller accompanied by Mrs. Frank Peterson. Joyce was interred in the Home City Cemetery, the Kinsley's Funeral Home was in charge of her arrangements. There is a cenotaph memorial marker in the Memorial Cemetery near Section K, Lot 16, Grave 4 at Fremont, Dodge County Nebraska. Joyce's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Joyce by a childhood friend Loren R.
