Joyce Elaine Papstein was born March 12, 1935, at Newcastle, Nebraska, to Roy and Olga (Nelson) McCracken. At the age of 16 she affirmed her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Joyce graduated from Newcastle High School in 1953 and received her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. Joyce married Edgar Dean Danielson June 10, 1956. To this union two children were born, Jim and Beverly. Joyce married Walt Papstein December 17, 1972, in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Bristow, Nebraska. They farmed north of Spencer until they sold their farm and moved to Spencer. To this union two children, Melanie and Michelle, were born. Joyce was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bristow, Nebraska. There she served in many roles as organist, choir director, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Joyce’s work was centered around music and children. She taught in rural schools, provided childcare, worked as an accompanist and taught piano lessons for several years. In Joyce’s later years she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be close to family. She helped care for her grandchildren and continued to teach piano lessons. Joyce passed away June 10, 2020, in her home in Lincoln encircled by love of her family. Survivors include her son, Jim Danielson of Page, Nebraska; daughter, Beverly Hoagland (Ron) of Lincoln; daughter, Melanie Novak (Mitch) of Nebraska City; daughter, Michelle Gibbs (Trent) of Lincoln; grandchildren, Trevor Danielson, Katie (Logan) Sheets, Taylor and Brett Novak, Garrett and Ariana Hoagland, and Samuel, Simeon, and Shiloh Gibbs; and sister-in-law, Joyce McCracken of Prophetstown, IL. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walt; brother, Marlyn McCracken; and twin grandsons.
