Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Eureka, SD. Joyce died Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Joyce J. Ottenbacher, daughter of Gottlieb and Olivia (Opp) Ottenbacher was born August 15, 1954 at Eureka, SD. She grew up five miles west of Eureka on the family farm. Joyce attended country school through the fifth grade and then went on to attend Eureka Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1974 as valedictorian. She then moved to Aberdeen where she worked at the School for the Visually Handicapped. In 1979, she moved to Sioux Falls, where she worked at a bank and did childcare. Joyce was united in marriage to Richard Holtry on September 27, 1980 at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They made their home in Sioux Falls. In 1985, they moved to New York while her husband attended seminary school. They returned to Sioux Falls in 1986. In 1991, Joyce returned to Aberdeen. She attended Congregational United Church of Christ in Columbia, SD. Joyce enjoyed reading, visiting with family and friends and watching professional bull riding. Spending time with children and babysitting her 3 year old nephew, William Ottenbacher, were always enjoyable times. She was a very happy, outgoing person and had such a warm outlook on life. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth (Kristopher Dixon) Holtry of Aberdeen, two brothers, Milton (Wanda) Ottenbacher of Bath, SD and Gary (Sheila) Ottenbacher of Aberdeen and five sisters, Viala Ottenbacher and Lorraine (John) Reule, both of Rapid City, Carol (Jim) Brandner and Arlene (David) Buechler, both of Aberdeen and June (Lester) Merkel of Eureka. Her parents, husband and three infant brothers preceded her in death. Casketbearers will be Camron Ottenbacher, Tim Ottenbacher, William Ottenbacher, Eric Brandner, Aaron Reule, and Michael Merkel.
