Funeral services for Joyce Morgan were held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn, IA. Rev. David Rogula officiated. A memorial fund has been established. Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements. Joyce Leale Maschmann Douglas Morgan was born September 1, 1931, on a farm near Hartwick, Iowa. Her parents were Henry Ludwig Maschmann and Helen Ruth Holmes Maschmann. Joyce received her education at Hartwick, Scott # 6, Guernsey High School and the Brooklyn High School graduating in 1948. She was married to Arthur Loren Douglas on August 5, 1948, in the home of her parents near Brooklyn. They were the parents of four children, Loren Patrick, Lorna Lee, Dennis Dale and LuAnn. They lived at Dysart for a couple of years and then at Brooklyn. Mr. Douglas died January 1, 1980. On July 12, 1986 Joyce married Gene Orren Morgan at the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Joyce was the librarian at the Brooklyn Public Library for sixteen years. Also she had worked at Roberts Dime Store, Jermier Variety Store, Book Card & Gift Shop and sold greeting cards and toys. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Emanon Club, Social Circle Club, and Friends of the Library and served on the Board of Directors of Brooklyn Housing, Inc. Joyce was known for always having a friendly smile and enjoyed spending time with her family. Her parents; husband Loren; two brothers, Frank and Lee; a sister, Helen Gates; and a granddaughter, Jeanne Douglas, preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband Gene of Brooklyn; her children, Loren Patrick Douglas (Bev) of Brooklyn, Lorna Lee Pollock (Michael) of Grinnell, Dennis Dale Douglas (Joy) of Brooklyn, and LuAnn Jahlas (Kevin) of Brooklyn; her brother, Henry Maschmann Jr. of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, Jason Douglas, Craig Jahlas, Justin Jahlas, Darren Douglas, Quentin Douglas, Brandi Van Meter, Amber Diehm Heuer and Jeremy Pollock; nine great grandchildren, Jared Douglas, Taylor Houghton, Austin Houghton, Allie Houghton, Bria Houghton, Evan Jahlas, Chris Williams, Brittney Dukes and Kelsey Dukes; and one great great-grandchild, Hayden Williams.
