Joyce passed away at the Community Pride Assisted Living in St. John on Friday, January 2, 2015. Joyce Lurene Morasch was born at the family home near Lancaster, Washington on December 21, 1927 to Edgar and Anna (Bafus) Schreiber. Joyce attended grade school in Lancaster and graduated from St. John High School in 1945. She married Floyd Morasch on November 12, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Endicott. Joyce and Floyd farmed in the St. John area their entire married life. Joyce was a hard working supporter of Floyd on the farm and she was not afraid to tackle any task, from grading roads to hoeing weeds in the summer fallow. A favorite job of hers occurred each spring when she could burn the ditches. This often resulted in melted sneakers. One of her greatest joys was found working in her yard, growing flowers and taking care of her large garden. She definitely had a green thumb. She loved to walk, was an avid golfer and had also bowled on the Rosalia leagues at one time. She helped her kids when they were involved in FFA and 4-H. Joyce was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she did many tasks in helping the church from teaching Sunday school, to volunteering her time, helping in the office, to baking homemade rye bread for communion. Her rye bread was very well known throughout Endicott and St. John. She loved to travel and spend time with her grand- children when they came to stay during summers on the farm. Joyce and Floyd travelled far and wide to see them in their activities. She had a special spot in her heart for babies and for dogs. Her house was always a beehive of activity with canning, making sauerkraut or German sausage, crocheting, sewing, or cooking. She loved it when family and friends would stop by for a visit. Joyce was considered by most to be a busy wife, mother and homemaker, but she also found time to cook on occasion for the St. John School District and she worked as a soil calculator for the Soil Conservation District for a time as well. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Floyd, at home in St. John; son Jim and Marilyn Morasch of Hermiston, OR and granddaughters, Sara Morasch of Spokane and Joni (Brad) Bailey of Spokane; her daughter Kathy and Rod Dupuis of Kettle Falls, WA and grandchildren Aubree Dupuis of Spokane, Evan and Paola Dupuis of El Paso, TX; and Garin Dupuis of Kettle Falls, WA. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven Floyd Morasch, her parents, and her sister, Ruby Morasch. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or to the St. John EMT's. Published in Spokesman-Review on Jan. 4, 2015
