Description	:	Joyce Odet Christensen of Fremont, formerly of Wahoo, died Monday July 5, 2004 in Fremont. She was born April 16, 1928 at Creighton, NE to Ernest and Bobbie (Abst) Greiner. She spent most of her childhood in Scribner, NE where her family owned and operated a grocery store during the depression years. Joyce graduated from Scribner High School. She was born April 16, 1928 at Creighton, NE to Ernest and Bobbie (Abst) Greiner. She spent most of her childhood in Scribner, NE where her family owned and operated a grocery store during the depression years. Joyce graduated from Scribner High School. She loved animals, especially dogs, her favorite of which was named Bojo. Following high school, Joyce attended business school and then worked at a bank until she was married. In June of 1955, a friend, Red Misfeldt, arranged for Joyce to meet Kenneth Christensen on a blind date. Two months later, on August 13, 1955, the couple was married in Logan, Iowa. For the first several years following her marriage, Joyce was a homemaker. Her husband, an educator himself, saw in Joyce the potential for a great teacher and encouraged her to pursue an education degree. Following graduation from college, Joyce taught 4th grade for 28 years, twenty-seven of those years were in Wahoo. As an educator, Joyce helped develop the Odyssey of the Mind Program for academically gifted children. She was a dedicated teacher who never missed a day of work until her final year of teaching. Joyce loved her students and tried to stimulate their interest in school by wearing large earrings, some of which were made out of Christmas tree bulbs, pencils, and other unusual materials. She was also known for wearing mismatched shoes to school. A very patriotic woman, she loved wearing shirts of red, white and blue. She also tutored during the summer for many years. Even after retiring, Joyce continued her love of teaching by judging Odyssey of the Mind tournaments. Joyce enjoyed traveling throughout her life. While her husband was coach of the womenís softball team at Kennedy College, Joyce would travel with the team to tournaments across the country. She was an adventurer who came to be nicknamed ìGraceî by the softball players who would often stay at her home during parts of the summer. Joyce loved to entertain and to cook. Her home was a gathering place, and was always open to anyone, especially her childrenís friends for whom she would often prepare late night snacks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth and son, Michael. She is survived by son Kevin (Lisa) Christensen of Manassas, VA; daughters Odetta (Tim) Wacker of Fremont, and Debbie (Kenny) Misfeldt of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren Curtis, David, Jaclyn and Katlyn Wacker, Katherine, Lindsey, Kaela and Lukas Christensen, Molly, Meggie, Morgan and Mattie Misfeldt, Cassie Christensen, and Rhonda (Craig) Witte; and great-granddaughter Hayley Witte. Funeral services will be 2:00 Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church in Wahoo with the Rev. Jon Sloan officiating. Burial will be at Sunrise North Cemetery. Serving as Casket Bearers will be Bob Forbes, Jack Tillman, Wes Kramer, Charles Divis, Red Misfeldt, and Steve Sweet. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Burton Knudsen, Louis Klinzman, Curtis Wacker, and David Wacker.
