Joyce Suzanne Buechter, daughter of Merl and LouNelle (Wright) Olson was born on December 13, 1951 at Pierre, South Dakota. Her family moved to Onawa, IA where Joyce attended school and graduated from Monona high school in 1970. She attended business school in Grand Island, NE, where she met her friend Mary Starkey Flessner. Joyce went home to Cedar Rapids to a football game with Mary, and this is where she met Larry, her partner in crime and love of her life. On August 28, 1971, Joyce was united in marriage to Larry Joseph Buechter at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE. The couple lived and farmed Larry's family farm East of Cedar Rapids. Along with helping on the farm, Joyce worked at the Fullerton Livestock Market, then the VanAkron Feedlot. In 1989 Larry and Joyce purchased Corner Tire & Lube in Cedar Rapids. She worked side by side with Larry until 2000. Joyce then started working at the Cedar Rapids State Bank until her retirement in 2017. She also worked for the flower shop, She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church along with the Altar Society and the Saturday night choir. Joyce was an EMT for the Cedar Rapids Rescue Squad for over 20 years, a member of the Cedar Valley Community Foundation, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for the Senior Center and took part in the community Melodrama in the past. Joyce baked cakes for special occasions for many people throughout the years, along with helping her daughter decorate cakes and catering events in the Curtis area. She especially enjoyed helping cook and visiting with clients during deer season for Heritage Outfitters in Curtis. Joyce shared her talents with her granddaughter Zoey and the Medicine Valley students. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and her flowers. She loved to golf, go camping and attend her grandchildren's school events. She would also take her grandkids camping annually when they were younger. When she was younger Joyce coached softball and played softball on the M&M women's slow pitch team. She had a love for animals, in the past she had horses, sheep, and goats but most recently her cats and dogs. She enjoyed her final day watching and playing with her great-grandson Beau and surrounded by her family. Joyce is survived by her three children: Bryan (Brenda) Buechter of Belgrade, NE; Stacey (Casey) Anderson of Curtis, NE; Kyle Buechter of Cedar Rapids, NE: seven grandchildren: Bailey (Joe) Weibert of Terry Town, NE; Justin Anderson of Curtis (Sam Gray) of Hastings, NE: Bryce, Breanna, and Brady Buechter of Belgrade, NE; Keagan and Zoey Buechter of Cedar Rapids, NE; great-grandson Beau Weibert; two brothers: Greg (Dottie) Olson of Bettendorf, IA; Larry Olson of Onawa, IA; Sally (Danny) Brown of Highland Ranch, CO; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Larry.
