The book is correct in saying the oldest was 8 years of age and the youngest was only 2 months of age upon arrival, but I am only finding four children, not five. Sarah Glover 23 Jan 1845 Boston Thomas A Minard arrived in Waukon just after Sep 1850 when this part of Iowa was still rough territory. He and George Shattuck cut timber for lots and roads for miles. Thomas bought lot 32 in 1851 from Mr Niblock, settling into the house Mr Niblock built. This is where the Minard and Townsend family stayed until the Townsend family moved out in 1854. Thomas and Sarah ended up at Leavenworth County, Kansas by Jan 1856. Sarah was not with him in 1860 and he had son Elisha with him. Children of Thomas A & Sarah (Glover) Minard all born at Boston: Clara Derby (Minard) Salmon b. 28 Nov 1845 Thomas A Minard Jr b. Oct 1846 Elisha G Minard b. Jan 1850 Thomas died 21 Sep 1863. And after all this, I am still not any closer to finding the correct names of John and Thomas' parents, other than finding Thomas A Minard's poss father b. 1799/1800 still survived at Annapolis in 1871.
