A tranquil sadness befell this community Tuesday morning when the word had spread that Miss Judy Jacot had passed away in a Sioux City, Iowa hospital, earlier that morning, from head injuries received in a one car accident, about a mile west of Verdigre Wednesday afternoon last week. Rendered unconscious in the accident, Miss Jacot never regained consciousness, and she lay in a coma till death, which came at 1:40 a.m. Funeral services will be held this Friday, afternoon. September 8 at 2 o'clock at the First Methodist church. Rev. David T. Gustafson will officiate. Interment will take place in the Jelen cemetery in the family plot. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe J. Jacot; two sisters, Jolene, Mrs. Ted O. Yager of Verdigre, and Karen and one brother, Teddy Joe, at home; also three half-brothers, Joe Jacot, Jr., of Verdigre, Willard Jacot of Norfolk and Charles Fangkender of Omaha and one half-sister, Mrs. Dale Smith of Verdigre. Miss Jacot, who would have been 18 years of age this coming October 1st was born in Verdigre. She was most active in youth work in the First Methodist church, and her influence had left a deep impression on her classmates. This was her first year of teaching and her school was district No. 22, the Stony Butte school. She had completed three days of instruction, and returning home at the end of the third day, she met with an accident, which proved fatal. Miss Jacot was thrown out o the rolling car, when the vehicle struck loose gravel as she was passing a pickup truck, and lost control. First taken to Creighton hospital, Saturday she was transferred to a hospital in Sioux City. (Thanks goes to Researcher Barbara Schwartz for sending this obituary.)
