Death last night removed one of our oldest and best known citizens – Mr. Jules Girardet, who for almost half a century has been a resident of Rock Creek precinct. Mr. Girardet has been ailing for a number of years, gradually growing weaker, so his death was not unexepected. He leaves five children – Mrs. J. M. Epler, of Julian; Phil. Girardet, of this city; William, of Colorado; Mrs. Ben Harrison, and Sterling, of Weeping Water. Mr. Girardet was born in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland, November 6, 1818, and when a young man emigrated to this country, settling in New York, where he followed his trade of baker. In 1856 he came to Nebraska City with his family and has since made his home here. The first employment he secured was on the farm of J. Sterling Morton, where he remained for a year or two, and then purchased a tract of land in Rock Creek precinct where he lived for many years. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church. Mr. Girardet was well known to all the pioneers of this city. __ p. 3, col. 1 The funeral of the late Jules Girardet took place from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Epler, near Julian last Saturday, and was largely attended. '''''''''''''''''' The Auburn Post (Auburn, Nebr.), March 6, 1903, p. 1, col. 6 Death of Jules Girardet Occurred Friday. Died, February 27th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. Eppler, of Julian, Jules Girardet, aged 84 years. Mr. Girardet was born in Switzerland. He came to America when quite a young man and located in New York City where he remained a few years. In 1856 he came to Nebraska locating at Nebraska City. For many years he lived on a farm in Otoe county but recently has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Eppler. He leaves five children. Mr. Girardet was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral services were held at the Eppler residence last Saturday.
