Description	:	Julia Amanda Merritt, daughter of Elisha C. and Annie Mayhew, was born Aug. 22, 1879[sic], near Versailles, Ripley county, Ind., and in I880 she moved to Lamoni with her family. In I887 she was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1896 she was married to Charles A. Cook. They had one daughter, Laola, who passed away in 1942. Read More	Julia Amanda Merritt, daughter of Elisha C. and Annie Mayhew, was born Aug. 22, 1879[sic], near Versailles, Ripley county, Ind., and in I880 she moved to Lamoni with her family. In I887 she was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1896 she was married to Charles A. Cook. They had one daughter, Laola, who passed away in 1942. She lived for a time in California and in Minot, N. D., where she later married N. Cliff Merritt. They soon returned to Lamoni where she lived the rest of her life. Her husband, Cliff Merritt, passed away Feb. 15, 1960. In her last illness, Mattie, as she was known to all of her friends and neighbors, was cared for during the last weeks of her illness in the home of her nephew, Ralph Silver, where she passed away in her sleep on July 4, 1960, at the age of 81 years, 10 months, and 12 days. She is survived by a grandson, Richard W. Miller of Independence. Mo.; two great-grandsons; a sister, Mrs. Flora Silver of Lamoni; and three nephews, Howard and Ralph Sliver of Lamoni, and Clair Silver of Austin, Texas. Funeral services were held at Stewart's Funeral chapel at Lamoni, on July 6, 1:30 p.m. in charge of Elders Clarence Heide and L. Morton Edmunds. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
