Boehmler came into this world on the 24th day of January, 1848, and left it March 17, 1910. Between these two days stretch sixty-two years. Her parents were Gordon N. and Jane Bowers. She was born near Cherry Valley, Winnebago county, Illinois. Here she dwelt with her parents through childhood into youth and young womanhood. During her seventeenth year the family imigrated to Iowa, and came to live at Frederika. This was in 1864. Julia returned to Illinois after some time and taught school. There she met Edward Boehmler, with whom in the comradeship of wedlock, she trusted her life and her earthly hopes on Christmas day, 1869. They went to Minneapolis to live, the occupation of Mr. Boehmler, that of a miller, made it advisable to make several changes from Minnesota to Iowa, thence to Nebraska and Dakota and back again to Iowa. For about twelve years they have had their home among us in Frederika. Thirty-seven years ago Mrs. Boehmler first began to feel the disease, chronic muscular rheumatism, which so sorely afflicted her for more than a quarter of a century. For many years she was entirely helpless. During all her suffering she bore herself with a courage and fortitude, patience and sweetness that had its spring in a deep trust in the love of Christ. This love of Christ colored all her hopes for herself and her loved ones. More than once when discouragement seemed to settle upon her pastor, a half hour with her would renew his strength and put courage into his heart. She was converted in 1882 and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Beatrice, Neb. Again and again has she said to her pastor, "I could not endure this through these years if it were not for my faith in Christ." Mr. and Mrs. Boehmler had but the one child, Grace, who has so tenderly shared with the husband the care of their loved one, who has gone to her home and her crown. Deceased also leaves a sister, Mrs. S. D. Bostwick of Seattle, Wash., and three half sisters and a half brother - Mrs. James Brodie of Waverly, Mrs. Will Ager, Mrs. Charley Merriott and D. L. Bowers of Frederika. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 19, the sermon being preached by Rev. J. B. Bird of Monona, Ia. A large concourse of people followed the remains in its flower-covered casket to its last resting place in the Frederika cemetery. Waverly, Iowa, Independent, March 24.
