Julia Elizabeth Aylward was born at Harrisburg, SD on September 10, 1919, the daughter of Phillip and Kathryn (Devitt) Aylward. She grew up in this area graduating from Cathedral High School. She went on to earn her teaching certificate from Mount Marty College in Yankton. She became an elementary school teacher and taught at the Dewey School three miles north of Tea in rural Lincoln County. On May 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to William Ollerich at the St. Magdalen's Catholic, Lennox. The couple lived on a farm north of Tea. In 1961 they moved to their farm home west of Sioux Falls. Julia worked as a cook at the Sioux Falls Livestock Auction Co. from 1963 to 1966. From 1967 until 1970 she worked for Nelson Concessions and in 1971 became a cook at the Minor Seminary until retiring in 1994. William died on March 7, 1983. Julia was an active and faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She belonged to the Catholic Daughters for 35 years. She was deeply religious and was involved in Bible study and church group activities. Julia was an Avera McKennan Hospital volunteer for over 20 years. She traveled extensively to all 50 states and Europe. She had been a 4H leader and enjoyed her large gardens, canning and baking apple pies from their own apple trees-making sure all the apples were utilized. Julia was a gifted seamstress who sewed for her daughters and made wedding dresses and formals. Because her parents had died at a young age, William and Julia raised Julia's younger brother, "Boz" and sister, Peggy. Besides her parents and husband, Julia was preceded in death by one daughter, June Ellen in 1965, two brothers: Vincent and Phillip "Boz", son-in-law, Roger Berg and daughter-in-law, Rita Ollerich. Grateful for having shared her life are her six children: Janet (Darrell) Timmerman, Tea, SD Joanne Berg, Fallon, NV, Jerald (Jean) Ollerich, and Jeffrey (special friend Sherrie) Ollerich both of Sioux Falls, Jerome Ollerich and James Ollerich both of Clearfield, SD; 14 grandchildren: LouAnn Gillette, Lee Timmerman, Larry Timmerman, Lynette Wold, Julianne Chaparro, Jacqueline Trease, Jessica Preister, Jenelle Ollerich, Jason Ollerich, Johanna Ream, Justin Ollerich, Traci Collison, Tyler Ollerich and Tamara Ollerich; 21 great-grandchildren: Anthony, Andrea, Eric, Ashley, Savanna, Gus, Rylea, Alexander, Benjamin, Bailey, Bella, Kaleb, Karson, Kensley, Meredith, Nathalie, Nicholas, William, John, Hadleigh and Burkley; sister, Peggy Kemp, Sioux Falls and sister-in-law, Ruth Aylward Pommer, Alexandria, SD, as well as other relatives and friends.
