Mrs. Pike's death came as a grievous shock to many Akron friends and the neighbors south of town among whom she lived for so many years. Her serious illness was not generally known. Pike, aged 52 years, 6 months and 7 days, of pneumonia. Mrs. Pike's death came as a grievous shock to many Akron friends and the neighbors south of town among whom she lived for so many years. Her serious illness was not generally known. Julia Etta Cox, youngest daughter of Richard R. and Sarah L. Cox, was born at Oxford, Illinois, October 18, 1852. She removed to Page county, Iowa, in 1873 with her sister. She united with the Baptist church at Oxford in her seventeenth year and with the Christian church in Akron two years ago, remaining in that faith to the end. February 11, 1874, she was married to Thomas J. Pike, and to them were born one son, Charles and two daughters, Elsie and Mabel who, with the husband, are left to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. Also surviving are her three brothers, Chas. E. Cox, of Chicago Hiram S. Cox, of Moline, Illinois, and J. Neil Cox, of Galesburg, Illinois, and one sister, Mary Thomas, of Clarinda Iowa. Mrs. Pike was one of the pioneer wives of western Plymouth county, coming here with her husband in 1879 The record of her life stands as an enduring monument to faithful wifehood and living motherhood. She was a true friend and a kind and generous neighbor, whose departure from scenes of earth brings genuine sorrow to all who knew her, and calls forth sincere sympathy for the bereaved ones. Funeral services were held in, the Akron M. E. church -Wednesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. F. L. Moore conducted the service. Interment was made in the Akron cemetery.
