Mrs. Poeppe, 88, died at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, after a three and a half year stay. Friends will call after 2:00 p.m. and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will recite the rosary at 3:00 Sunday afternoon at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. She was born July 17, 1908, at Breda IA, a daughter of Frank and Mary (Naberhaus) Nieland. Julia attended rural school near Breda. She and A J "Pat" Poeppe were married January 15, 1929, at Breda. The Poeppe's farmed in the Carroll area until 1947, when they bought a farm near Emmetsburg. They moved into Emmetsburg in 1973. Mrs. Poeppe was a member of Holy Family Parish and CD of A. She loved to visit with everyone. Julia always enjoyed the outdoors. She had a garden that provided the family with vegetables to last through the winter. Julia sewed all her own and the children's clothes until later in life. She could do all kinds of fancy work; crochet, knit, embroidery, tat, candlewick, quilting, and crafts. She made all 36 grandchildren an afghan for their high school graduation. Julia had lots of flowers inside and outside. She enjoyed writing down new recipes and trying them, she would have pieces of paper (backs of envelopes, backs of used paper, etc.) laying by the radio so she could write down the recipes. On the farm in Emmetsburg, a wildlife refuge, there were many different birds and animals, Julia enjoyed the babies the most. Survivors include eight children: Dolora (Delbert) Brincks of Carroll, Wayne (Alvina) Poeppe of Eagleville MO, Fern (Ken) Dobbins of Moorhead MN, Kenneth (Ruth) Poeppe of Emmetsburg, Phyllis Lindsey of Laurens, Dale (Bea) Poeppe of Emmetsburg, Patricia (Howard) Metzger of Estherville, and Zeline (Joe) Gappa of Emmetsburg; 37 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Norbert Nieland of Carroll, Arnold Nieland of Auburn; and three sisters: Eleanor Nees of Carroll, Marie Reineke of Carroll, and Genevieve Lammers of West Union IA. Mrs. Poeppe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, on November 15, 1976; a daughter, Sr. Anita Poeppe, FSPA; two sisters; Sr. Anthusia Nieland FSPA, and one in infancy; a brother, Richard Nieland; a grandson, Donald Poeppe; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Sharp.
