Description	:	Julia Hand, 91, formerly of Pleasanton, died Monday, December 30, 1996, at Mother Hull Home in Kearney, where she had lived since April 1991. Services will be 2:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Pleasanton with Rev. Rose Bartelson officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Julia Klein was born April 22, 1905 at her parents' farm west of Pleasanton. She was the second of 13 children of John and Julia Ebel Klein. Her elementary education was from the country school Prairie Bell, a mile northwest of her home, where she rode her horse daily. She spent her early life gardening, canning, cooking and taking care of the smaller children, as her mother died when Julia was 15 years old, leaving nine children younger than herself. On February 14, 1927, Raymond Hand and Julia Klein were married in Kearney. The young couple first lived at Kimball and Dix on wheat farms. They moved permanently back to Pleasanton in 1930 to the "Adams house" near Sheckler's Lake where Norman joined the family on October 28, 1930 and Rex on July 12, 1932. The boys grew up on the lake and river, spending hours hunting and fishing. This house was later replaced (1964-1965) with a lovely brick ranch style home. Raymond and Julia had a trucking business, machine shop and in later years the Hand Well Co. Julia was the bookkeeper for the well business until her retirement in 1973 when the business was sold to their son, Rex. Her husband died from cancer on August 27, 1974. Survivors include her sons, Norman and Rex, both of Pleasanton; brother Harvey Klein, Grand Island; sisters, Bernice Moberg, Pleasanton, and Tracy Nelsen, New Ulm, Minn.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
