Jones funeral home for Mrs. Ed Kallous, who passed away Saturday night at 9:15 at the Washington county Hospital. The Rev. R.C. Keagy of the Methodist church had charge of the services. A daughter of John and Mary Shalla, pioneers of the Salem community, southeast of Kalona, she was born here January 25, 1873 and this had been her home. She was married September 23, 1895 to M. J. Kallous and they lived on a farm not far from where she was born. Serving besides the husband are the following children, Glenn of Riverside, Ray of Richmond, Charles of Washington, Merle at home, Mrs. Katherine Prebyl of Washington, Mrs. Jessie Kline of ills and Mrs. Gertrude Beranek of Kalona. There are 24 grandchildren, one sister Kate Shalla of Washington, four brothers, Ed and James of Kalona, Joe and John of Washington. Two brothers Charles and Anthony and one sister Mrs. Jess Swick are deceased. Mrs. Kallous was a devoted mother and wife, the wellbeing of her family as uppermost in her thoughts at all times. She was never happier than when her children were around her. The grandchildren were very dear to Mrs. Kallous, so it was particularly fitting that six grandsons, Arthur, Hubert, and Donald Beranek, William Kallous, Junior Prebyl and Norman Kallous should be pall bearers. The many beautiful floral pieces at the funeral gave silent testimony of the high esteem in which she was held.
