Wakehouse, 91, of Onawa died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa. Services were 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Steven Hetzel officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. Julia Marea Rasmussen was born April 28, 1917, in Moorhead, the daughter, of Albert and Anna (Johnson) Rasmussen. She was raised in the Moorhead area and attended country school. She helped care for her brothers after her mother died at a very young age. She worked for several years at a Sioux City packing house and later ran the Moorhead cafe. She and Walter Wakehouse were united in marriage in Moorhead in 1949. They lived in Magnolia, Iowa for two years until they started farming Walter's parent's farm near Pisgah, Iowa. She also worked outside the home at Moss Nursing Home in Onawa and Harlan Job Corps for several years. The couple retired to Onawa in May 1969. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, where she was involved in various activities of the church. She loved her vegetable gardens, sewing, embroidering, quilting and baking delicious meals for her family. She was a loving and caring person, who loved to spend time with her family and friends. Survivors include a son, Roy (Janet) Wakehouse of Onawa; a daughter-in-law, Becky Wakehouse of Onawa; two daughters, Sara (Brian) Atwell of Little Sioux, Iowa, and Becky (David) Vaughn of Castana, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Christina (Keith) Timm, Cherlynn (Tylor) Belshe, Jessica (Chuck) Armstrong, Aimee Atwell, Amber (Nick) Greiner, Jared and Alex Wakehouse and Regina Ronfeldt; six great-grandchildren, Blaine Belshe, Ethan Greiner, Logan and Skylar Armstrong and Gage and Eli Ronfeldt; a brother, Wilbur (Radene) Rasmussen of Prescott, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. In addition to her husband, Walter, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Rasmussen; a son, Gary Wakehouse; and a brother, Irvin "Mike" Rasmussen.
