Description	:	Mrs. Julia De Groot, age 90, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. Julia Marie was born on November 30, 1921, in Alton, the daughter of Jacob F. and Jennie (Wiersma) Dowma. She was raised at Alton, where she graduated from the Alton High School. Read More	Mrs. Julia De Groot, age 90, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. Julia Marie was born on November 30, 1921, in Alton, the daughter of Jacob F. and Jennie (Wiersma) Dowma. She was raised at Alton, where she graduated from the Alton High School. She also attended the National Business Training School in Sioux City. She then was a secretary for a livestock commission in Sioux City On December 8, 1942, she married Stewart De Groot in Alton. They first made their home in Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked at the Boeing bomber plant. Three years later, they moved to Alton. There she was a homemaker and also served as Deputy Auditor for Sioux County at the court house in Orange City. They spent 24 winters in Mesa, Arizona. In May of 2010, they moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. Mrs. De Groot was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's activities and sponsored the Girl's League. She also played the organ and accompanied choirs for worship services. She enjoyed music, especially playing the piano, and travelling in the summer. Survivors include her husband of almost seventy years; a son, James Stewart De Groot, of Ontario, California; a daughter and her husband, Sandra Lee (De Groot) and Newsom Williams, of New Bern, North Carolina; a grandson and his wife, Mike and Ann Kathryn Daniels, of Raleigh, North Carolina; a granddaughter and her husband, Melissa Daniels and Kevin Dulsky, of San Carlos, California; four great-grandchildren, Troy Daniels and Cameron, Caitlin, and Claire Dulsky; a brother-in-law and his wife, Harold and Alyce De Groot, of Sioux Center; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Parker, of Bozeman, Montana. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Luther Daniels; two brothers and their wives, Arnold and Hermina (Mouw) Dowma and Vernon and Gladys (Newendorp) Dowma; and a brother-in-law, Freeman De Groot.
