They were the parents of Nancy, Elizabeth, Blanche, Maude (1880-1960 WI), and Vivian. They were the parents of Nancy, Elizabeth, Blanche, Maude (1880-1960 WI), and Vivian. June 13, 1942 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Julia Tanner, pioneer resident of Carroll, passed away at the St Anthony Hospital about 7 o'clock this morning. Had she lived until June 25, she would have been 86 years old. Mrs Tanner had been taken to the hospital on June 4 after suffering a broken leg in a fall at her home. Her leg was broken below the hip. Until sustaining this injury she had been in excellent health. The body is being taken this evening from the Huffman Funeral Home to the home of Mrs Tanner's daughter, Mrs. Nancy Bruning, 705 North Clark street, to rest there until the time of the rites. Services are to be held at the funeral home at 2:30 Monday afternoon, with burial in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. Mrs Tanner was well known throughout this community, having lived in Carroll county for 65 years. She was born Julia Parr, daughter of Truman and Mary Parr, in Cedar County, Ia, June 28, 1856. On her birthday in the year 1874, she married Frank Tanner. In 1877 Mr and Mrs Tanner came to Carroll county from Cedar county, locating on a farm between Carroll and Auburn. They subsequently farmed in Pleasant Valley township and also on the Moran place east of Carroll before moving into Carroll in the fall of 1885. Mrs Tanner has lived here since that time. Her husband passed away in 1914. Mrs Tanner was the mother of 5 daughters, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs A.T. Bruning (Nancy), Carroll; Mrs C.W. Lauver (Elizabeth), Ute; Mrs Guy Roper (Blanche) Knoxville; Mrs George Bruning (Maude), Eau Claire, WI; and Mrs Frank Livingston (Vivian), Manning. She also leaves eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one nephew, D.T. Bliss of Glidden. She was the youngest and last of a family of 6 children. Mrs Tanner attended the Baptist church until it disbanded here. Two of Mrs Tanners daughters from away Mrs Roper of Knoxville and Mrs Livingston of Manning are here. Mrs Livingston had been with her mother since she suffered her injury and Mrs Roper came last Saturday.
