The Wentzville Union Newspaper - January 22, 1943: Mrs. Julia Armstrong, nee Simms, widow of the late John B. Armstrong, died at her home in Foristell, Sunday, January 17, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 29 days. Mrs. Armstrong was born Oct. 19, 1856 on the old Simms farm, 5 miles southwest of Wentzville and lived in this section of the county all her life. A few years ago she and her son Ed purchased the Rev. Wallner place west of town and lived there a short while, when they purchased a home in Foristell and moved there. They recently sold the property west of Wentzville. On Dec. 23, 1879, she was married to John B. Armstrong. It was a double wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Will McRoberts being married at the same time and place, Rev. Jos. Allen performing the ceremony. Two children came to the Armstrongs to bless their home, a son Edward and a daughter Mary Eleanor, the daughter preceding her in death at the age of 15 years. Her husband died Aug. 9, 1926. Mrs. Armstrong united with the Methodist church during a revival conducted here by Rev. Harris. About 6 years ago Mrs. Armstrong fell and injured a hip and since then was compelled to spend her days in a wheel chair, however she was always of good cheer and had many friends. The deceased leaves to mourn her passing, her son Edward, three sisters Mrs. Francis Doyle of St. Louis, Mrs. Henry Johnson of Detroit, Mich., and Miss Dora Simms at the Armstrong home; two brothers, John D. Simms and Allen Dale Simms of St. Louis; nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home in Foristell, Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Interment was in Linn cemetery.
