Born in Greenwood, October 11, 1926, he was a son of the late George Van and Vannie Mae Faulkner Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. Read More	JULIAN GARRETT Julian Earl Garrett, Sr., 87, resident of 609 Marshall Road, widower of Ruby Johnson Garrett, died Monday, March 24, 2014 at Hospice House. Born in Greenwood, October 11, 1926, he was a son of the late George Van and Vannie Mae Faulkner Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the Greenwood College of Commerce. A World War II Veteran, Mr. Garrett served in the US Navy and retired from the US Air Force Reserve obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He was retired from the US Postal Service after twenty years where he was a mail clerk and postal carrier. Mr. Garrett formerly served on the Greenwood County Planning Board and had served on the Greenwood City Council for twelve years. He was a sixty year member of Joppa Masonic Lodge, now Friendship Masonic Lodge#25 and was a member of Greenwood York Rite Bodies. A member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church, Mr. Garrett was a member of the Men's Bible Class and had formerly taught Sunday school, served as a Lay Leader and had served in various other capacities throughout the church. He was a loving father and grandfather and never missed an opportunity to encourage someone if he had a chance. Surviving are a daughter, Anna G. Dominick and husband Rhett of Greenwood; a son, Julian E. Garrett, II and wife Laura of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Leslie D. Burden and husband Clint and Elizabeth Dominick, both of Greenwood, Evan Garrett and wife Katherine of Augusta, GA and Julie Ann Garrett of Waterloo; a sister, Dorothy G. Dove of Gray, GA; sisters-in-law, Winnie Johnson and Mildred Dukes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 AM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mary Jane Shoemaker and Reverend James Davis officiating. Burial will be in Oakbrook Memorial Park. Masonic Rites will be conducted Wednesday at 5:00 PM at the funeral home, followed by visitation from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM.
