They had 7 children: Conrad, Ralph, Clarene, Madonna, Doris, Verna, and Ellen. OBITUARY: Julian J. Sabelka age 84 of Lawler died Tuesday morning, November 15, 2011, at the New Hampton Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler with Rev. Marvin Salz celebrating the Mass. The pall will be placed on the casket by his children. Bob Huinker will be the organist with Lori Galligan and Rich Winter leading the congregation in song. Crossbearer for the service will be Ryan Yordanoff. Andy Pomroy will be the lector. The offertory gifts will be presented by Rachel Orvis, Sarah Renn and Amanda Reicks. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery - Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler with Wayne Throndson, Dale Throndson, Mark Hackman, Jim Sabelka, John Sabelka, Dave Vsetecka, Daryl Crowe and Tom Sabelka serving as pallbearers. Staff of the New Hampton Care Center will be honorary pallbearers. Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lawler where there will be a 4:00 p.m. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. scripture service. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at church on Friday. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton. Julian Joseph Sabelka was born April 18, 1927, on the Sabelka family farm just north of Sacred Heart Catholic Church - Reilly Ridge, rural Lawler, the son of John and Clara (Meier) Sabelka. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Faith at Sacred Heart Church. Having grown up through the Depression, his days were filled with hard work done the hard way; by hand and with horses. He attended Utica #4 country school graduating from the eighth grade. He remained on the family farm until his life changed when he met Dolora Hackman at the Inwood Ballroom in Spillville, IA. The couple were married on October 8, 1953, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA. To this union seven children were born. Julian and Dolora moved to a farm northwest of Reilly Ridge where they remained for the next 55 years. Julian loved farming, raising crops and livestock. He was especially proud of his beef cattle herd. The couple moved into Lawler in November 2008 and on November 19, 2009, lost his wife at the age of 80. Julian became a resident of the New Hampton Care Center in April of 2011. He enjoyed reading about history and geography as well as keeping up on current events. He loved to visit, sing along with old-time music and especially enjoyed going dancing with Dolora. Julian took great pride in his family and was always very accepting of all the new members married into his family. He was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Church – Reilly Ridge and upon it closing, transferred his membership to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Memberships include the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Farm Bureau. Survivors include two sons, Conrad Sabelka of New Hampton and Ralph Sabelka of Apple Valley, MN; five daughters, Clarene (Antonio) Sierra of Savage, MN, Madonna (Mike) Knudson of Blair, NE, Doris Sabelka (Bruce Clawson) of Rock Springs, WI, Verna (Jack) Orvis of Lawler and Ellen (Nick) Yordanoff of Pleasant Hill, IA; ten grandchildren, Ashley Sierra (Andy Pomroy), Carl (Angie) Knudson, Laura (Chris) Douglas, Anna and Keith Clawson, Sarah (Kyle) Renn, Amanda (Barry) Reicks, Rachel Orvis, Ryan and Haley Yordanoff; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Abel Renn, Jaila Reicks; one sister, Mary Ann Hackman of Decorah; one brother, Jack (Shirley) Sabelka of Little Turkey; one brother-in-law, Hugo Hackman of Fredericksburg; two sisters-in-law, Leona Winter of St. Lucas and Hilaria Kipp of Festina. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 56 years, Dolora on November 19, 2009; one sister, Ivanelle (Charles) Crowe; brothers and sisters-in-law, George Hackman, Hilda and Carl Brandsmeier, Mildred Hackman, Rose, Carl and Adoph Hackman, Edwin Kipp and Clarence Winter.
