The casket will not be open at the church at any time. He was born on May 17, 1894 near Doland and spent his entire life in the Doland and Turton area. He married Myrtle Fortin on July 19, 1916 at Turton. He had been a resident of the James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield for several years. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Doland. Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Gladys) Bowman, Cicero, Ind.; Mrs. Robert (Lorene) Haney, Anderson, Ind.; Mrs. Paul (Dorothy) Hagerty, Hill City; Mrs. Merle (Rachel) Coats, Redfield; Mrs. Albert (Elaine) Rahm, Turton; Mrs. Quentin (Lila) Miles, Mellette; Mrs. Jim (Marvel) Mann, Wayzata, Minn.; two sons, Marvin, Doland; Maurice, Rapid City; five sisters, Odille Roueleau, Mantino, Ill.; Edna Letourneau, Hastings, Neb.; Mrs. George (Irene) Sandquist, Salina, Kan.; Mrs. Jerome (Rosella) Rueschenberg, Doland; Mrs. Deschler (Febiola) Welch, Doland; four brothers, Leon, Redfield; Albert, Portland, Ore.; Orville, Brentford; Elmer, Orient; 51 grandchildren and 17 great -grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two infant sons. BIOGRAPHY: Published in the Turton Centennial Book, 1986. Julian and Myrtle Remily were both born and raised in the Turton vicinity. Julian was next to the oldest in a family of ten children born to Fred and Clara Remily. He was born on May 17, 1894. His education was a rural school near their home but, being the eldest son, his education was limited because of being needed at home to help his father with the farm work. He did successfully get through the sixth grade. Myrtle was born on January 16, 1897, the eldest daughter in a family of six boys and six girls born to Edward and Rose Fortin. She also received her education in Turton and both were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Julian and Myrtle were married on June 19, 1916 and established their first home on a rented farm about five miles east of Turton. Myrtle did alot of canning and sewing and they milked alot of cows. They continued living in the Turton-Crandall area until 1933 when they moved to a farm northeast of Doland where they lived for a couple years and then moved to a farm on the edge of Doland. Here they milked a lot of cows and established a milk route in Doland where they sold milk and cream. This milk business helped them get through the depression years. In the "dirty 30's" Julian worked with neighbor farmers on WPA to help supplement the family budget. Mrs. Remily did a lot of sewing and making over dresses, coats and jackets for the family. It was hard raising a family during the dust storm years. Julian told stories about going home from work in the middle of the day when the dirt was blowing and it was so dark you couldn't see in front of you. He'd just let the horses go and they'd take him home. An hour or so later the sun would be shining and it woud be daylight again. Later they built themselves a home in Doland but continued farming for the next four years. After a new well was dug on the farm they moved back to the country, west and south of Doland, until Mrs. Remily passed away on November 16, 1956. They had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary that year. Julian then quit farming for himself but worked some for his son-in-law and then made his home with his son, Marvin, for several years. He then sold his home in Doland to relatives but rented a room from them and continued to make his home there. Because of failing health he spent his last three winters in the James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield and passed away in April, 1973. Mr. and Mrs. Remily were the proud parents of seven girls and four boys. Two of the boys died in infancy but at the time of this writing the other nine children are living with the proud memory of their great parents. They are: Mrs. Edwin Bowman (Gladys) of Cicero, Ind., Mrs. Robert Haney (Lorene) of Anderson, Ind., Mrs. Paul Hagerty (Dorthy) of Hill City, Mrs. Merle Coats (Rachel) of Rapid City, Mrs. Albert Rahm (Elaine) of Turton, Mrs. Quentin Miles (Lila) of Clark, Mrs. James Mann (Marvel) of Minnetonka, Minn., Marvin of Doland and Maurice of Rapid City. At the time of his death Julian had 51 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, but that number has grown considerably since then.
