Mr. Murph was born May 30, 1917 in the Murph Mill Community of Calhoun County, S.C. He was a son of the late Marvin Livingston Murph and Amanda Arramenta Smoak Murph. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley Smoak Murph and Marvin Livingston Murph Jr. His is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Amelia Stewart, a sister, Arramenta Murph Hite. Murph, 92, of Seneca, S.C. passed peacefully away Friday, April 10, 2009 at Hospice of the Foothills. Mr. Murph was born May 30, 1917 in the Murph Mill Community of Calhoun County, S.C. He was a son of the late Marvin Livingston Murph and Amanda Arramenta Smoak Murph. He was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley Smoak Murph and Marvin Livingston Murph Jr. His is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Amelia Stewart, a sister, Arramenta Murph Hite. Also surviving are two sons, Lee Stewart Murph, of Greenwood, S.C.; Alan Julian Murph, of Petersburg, Alaska, and a daughter, Martha Amanda George of Seneca. Julian is survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1940, and he was both a licensed Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor. In January 1942, Mr. Murph entered active duty as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Army. During World War II, he served overseas in the Asiatic-Pacific and European Theatres of Operations. For his service, Mr. Murph was awarded the Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal, the Asia-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He received an Honorable Separation from Active duty on April 17, 1946 from 1st Lt, 325 Glider Infantry 83rd Airborne Division. After the war, Mr. Murph worked as an engineer with the Sirrine Corporation and with the engineering firm Jones and Murph. From 1960 to 1966, he was City Engineer and Superintendent of the Light and Water Department for the City of Seneca. In 1966, Mr. Murph returned to work with Clemson University in the Physical Plant Division as the Assistant Superintendent of Planning and Engineering where he worked until his retirement. In that capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the upper level additions to "Death Valley" and building Littlejohn Coliseum. Mr. Murph was a lifelong Methodist and a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Seneca. During his lifetime, he was a Rotarian, a member of the Lions Club and American Legion. Julian was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and loyal friend. He was the most honest man ever known. Funeral Services: Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2009. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church with burial following in Oconee Memorial Park. The family is at the home of Martha and Kenneth George, 106 Raven Pt. (Stonehaven) Seneca, SC 29678.
